TV1’s Salam Pantai Timur (SPT) or Greetings from the East Coast deserves a pat on the back. While other local TV sitcoms usually manage to sustain its popularity for several seasons, this satirical comedy will be moving on to its 11th season on Sept 9.
“The previous seasons emphasised on political issues, lifestyles of the East Coast folk and the Kelantanese culture and dances. The upcoming season will be a refreshing change as it highlights the Government’s important messages to the people.
“SPT serves as the Government’s mouthpiece and we hope the new season will appeal to a larger audience from various races,” said its producer Norfadzilah Hashim after the launch of the new season in Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur, recently.
Norfadzilah, who has co-produced TV1’s musical programme Getaran and literary programme Anjung Budi, explained that the recording will start on Sept 3 at Studio One in Angkasapuri. 
Leading the cast are veteran comedians Sabri Yunus, M. Rajoli, Nik Sayyidah Fatiha, Mohd Idris Berahim and Ramlee Abdul Sallam. The story is set in a coffee shop by the seaside and the actors speak in the Kelantanese dialect.
Student Nik Sayyidah, 22, plays the lovable Mek Siti, daughter of coffee shop owner Pak Su. She is looking forward to the upcoming season as it is a positive progression from the past seasons.

Dikir Barat is a form of singing. The Origins of Dikir Barat is debatable, but most would accept it to be from Southen Thailand or Northen Penisula Malaysia.
In an agricultural society,the dikir barat was performed as a ritual or celebration of the rice harvest season.Today, dikir barat performances are mainly for entertainment but competitions between Dikir Barat groups are also held.
Currently,the state of Malaysia which is Kelantan and Terengganu are perhaps two places where Dikir Barat is still performed actively on many levels.
The Composition of a Dikir Barat Group
The basic elements of a Dikir Barat Group are the two front men, the Juara and the Tukang Karut. A Dikir Barat group can be of any size.
The Juara is the singer of the group and he will usually open the performance of his or her group followed by the Tukang Karut. Unlike the Juara, the Tukang Karut will be interacting with the audience with his or her wit.
The more engaging a Tukang Karut is the more effective he or she is as a performer. The Juara would be one with the melodious voice.
